Kansas City yards slope. Walls and steps are how you get a sloped yard back into use.

A retaining wall is a structure, not a decoration, and most of the failed walls we get called out to replace failed for the same two reasons: no proper base, and nowhere for the water behind them to go. We build on a compacted base with drainage behind the wall, which is why the walls we put in twenty years ago are still straight.

Limestone and cut stone

Local limestone in ledge and boulder form, and cut stone where the house wants a cleaner line. Both weather into the yard rather than standing out from it, and both can be stepped and terraced instead of run as one tall face.

Engineered block

Manufactured block systems for the taller and longer walls, in a range of colours and textures, with the corners, caps and steps detailed properly rather than cut on site.

Seat walls, planters and steps

Where a wall is already holding a grade, setting the top course at seating height turns it into permanent seating around a patio or fire pit. The same stone carries into planters, stoops and the stairways that get you up the slope, so the whole yard reads as one piece of work.
